Success at the cost of your sleep, is it worth it?
Hell yeah!
When you start making money it feels good [I sound materialistic init?, but who doesn’t want money].
Alright, let me sound serious. “When you start making impact and benefiting products and lives with your skills and the results of your hardwork, it feels good”.
But are you getting these results because you had sleepless nights? maybe yes maybe no.
Sleepless night is not the one key fit all to success, but the point I’m driving at is; burning the midnight oil means putting the extra hours.
If the extra hours you can put in is during the day please do. If it’s during the night please do.
In 300level, I was preparing for a female “ideathon”, I barely slept overnight, perhaps at most a 2-3hr sleep and ran on that for the whole day. What was I doing? I was coding and learning React Native. For a competition for girls where all they wanted you to do is pitch to them your idea and here was I already building for the idea. Oversabi
Was it worth it? hell yeah!
I was amongst the my resume looked better, it felt like a career upgrade, I got opportunities, I loved the dopamine rush of learning React Native in a week and building something with it.
Did I keep trying such reckless sleeping pattern, yes. Was it always worth it , yes again!
Sometimes, it’s not one night, it’s like the compounding efforts of all the nights.
Sleepless night isn’t the core, the work you put in is the core.
I have a friend, who does not do such reckless runs like I do.
He sleeps well at night, but oh boy, he does maximize his day building his dreams and is it worth it? Hell yeah!
So sleep at night or don’t sleep at night, sha don’t sleep on your dreams!
Take care of yourself and I’ll try to do the same [these days it's been hard, but I'll get over it.].
See you in my next entry!
